California Early Learning Coaching and Communities of Practice

California Coaching System Development

The Lastinger Center is leading the development of California’s statewide early learning Coaching Credential - in partnership with WestEd, the University of Washington, First 5 California, and the California Department of Education. A standard pathway and an alternative pathway are being developed, focusing on both building the skills of novice coaches and capitalizing on the existing coaching capacity in local communities. This model is teacher-centered with a strengths-based partnership approach that takes into consideration the unique needs and context of California’s early childhood workforce.

California Communities of Practice Training Development and Implementation

The Lastinger Center is also a lead early childhood education partner in the design, plan, and implementation of capacity building for California’s early childhood education staff, regions and counties to more effectively build state, regional and local systems through several collaborative problem-solving strategies. These strategies include leading an initial 3-day State Support Team CoP training with follow-up strategies, contributing to content development for virtual CoP’s, and contributing to the development of face to face (FTF) regional CoP structure and content.
