John Smith serves as the IT Analyst Specialist at the Lastinger Center for Learning. In this role, John endeavors to analyze the needs of technology demands, assist employees, troubleshoot systems, manage documentation, and maintain system operation.

John began his career spending 4 years in the U.S. Air Force as a weapons loader and maintainer for B-1 Lancer bombers. He also spent 8 years as an electronics mechanic working for Walmart Distribution maintaining computer-controlled systems and robotic sortation equipment. Using those skills and experiences, he then turned them towards a career in IT operations. Previously, he worked for the Alachua County School Board as an IT for a year then transitioned to UF Health Affairs at Shands. There, he worked alongside UFHealth IT for 2 years supporting the College of Dentistry, College of Medicine, and more.

John has a bachelor’s degree in IST-Networking, an associate degree in Network Systems Technology, and vocational certificates in Network Security and Network Server Administration all from Santa Fe College. In his free time, he likes to enjoy time with his wife and son, play video games, do maintenance work on anything, and research history.
