Reading is an adventure, a thrill, and a basic human right that has the ability to transform lives in incredible ways. The Lastinger Center envisions a world where all children have access to supports and educational practices that are proven to help them learn to and love to read.

The reality is that there is an illiteracy epidemic in the United States: 15 million (64%) American children are currently unable to read proficiently. This does not have to be our reality. The Lastinger Center, in partnership with the UF College of Education, is developing a comprehensive literacy network that enhances both teacher practice and child outcomes related to literacy instruction and reading proficiency while fostering a lifelong joy of learning among all ages.
