Trident United Way Reading by Third

The UF Lastinger Center is a partner of the Tri-County Reading by Third Initiative, an innovative program supported by South Carolina-based Trident United Way (TUW). This initiative has partnered with Charleston County School District, Dorchester District 2, and Dorchester District 4 to rapidly increase the number of third graders reading at a proficient level from the current stark rate of only 50%.

The Lastinger Center and University of Florida College of Education are providing intensive professional development to elementary reading teachers using the UFLI program. Early childhood professionals in Charleston County are also engaging in literacy content clinics and completing online courses with a literacy focus.
