Marva Johnson
Advisory Board Member
In this role, Marva oversees state government affairs, regulatory, local franchising, state legislative matters, strategic partnerships, and strategies for government and community initiatives. Marva’ joined Charter Communications in 2016 and her region includes Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.
Before joining Charter, Johnson was Corporate Vice President, Government and Industry Affairs with Bright House Networks. Johnson’s tenure in technology-driven industries includes prior service in numerous legal, regulatory, and policy roles. Johnson has also held auditing, marketing, and product development positions with Arthur Andersen, BellSouth (now AT&T), and MCI (now Verizon Communication).
Throughout her career, Mrs. Johnson has been passionate about creating educational opportunities that enable success for every child. As a result, she received the Minority Media and Telecommunications Council’s Champion for Digital Equality Award in recognition of her extraordinary leadership and advocacy in helping bridge the digital divide in education for low-income families. Her passion for education is evident in her volunteer service on the board for the Florida Virtual School and as the former chair of the Florida State Board of Education.
Johnson also holds the distinction of having served as a member of Florida’s 2018 Constitution Revision Commission. Johnson is actively engaged on numerous board and leadership roles including serving on the Enterprise Florida board. She is a member of the Executive Committee and serves as Secretary for Florida TaxWatch, the Immediate Past Chair for the Global Board of Women in Cable Telecommunications (WICT), the Florida Talent Development Council, and serves on the National Board for the Pace Center for Girls.
Mrs. Johnson has received many other accolades, including Cablefax: The Magazine’s “MSO Executive to Watch” and as a “Top Women in Tech.” Mrs. Johnson has been recognized numerous times as a member of Cablefax’s Most Influential Minorities and Most Powerful Women in Cable. She has also been recognized by Florida Trend as one of the Top 100 Most Influential People in Florida Politics.
Raised in the Tampa Bay Area, Mrs. Johnson earned a Juris Doctor from the Georgia State University College of Law, a Master of Business Administration from Emory University’s Goizueta Business School, and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Georgetown University. She is admitted to practice law in Georgia.
