Joe Nicholson serves as the Senior Manager of Special Initiatives at the Lastinger Center for Learning. In this role, Joe is leading the Center’s efforts in research and development of new initiatives. Coordinating the collaboration from many different stakeholder groups, including Communications, Products, and Academic Subject Matter Experts across the 3 milestones the Lastinger Center seeks to improve (Early Learning, Literacy, Math).

Joe has been involved with project management his entire career. He began his career in event production by coordinating a wide variety of events including music festivals, press launches, and feature films. Previously, Joe served as the Director of Creative Works, which was an Educational Business Auxiliary for the University of Florida and in the College of Pharmacy, as Director of Video Production Services.

Joe has a bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Parks and Tourism with a specialization in Natural Resource Management from the University of Florida and a master’s degree in Digital Arts and Sciences from UF’s Digital Worlds Institute. In his free time, Joe serves on the Board of Awesome Gainesville, volunteers at WMBT 90.1 FM, is on the Santa Fe College Graphic Design and Multimedia Technology Advisory Committee, and supports a wide variety of other projects. He enjoys making Gainesville a better place to live, spending time outdoors, listening to live music, getting upset with overly complicated DIY projects, and spending time with his sons and family.
