Julianna Banks, Ph.D.

Julianna Banks serves as a research coordinator for the Lastinger Center’s Research and Evaluation Team. Her work supports the Center’s external research and evaluations initiatives.

Before joining the Lastinger team in 2023, she conducted research aimed at leveraging technology to broaden minority and nontraditional student access, and improving their achievement and retention in STEM disciplines. Dr. Banks also served as a Project Director for the Center for Urban and Multicultural Education in Indianapolis. She has conducted mixed methods research on an array of social and educational issues with private, non-profit, and government organizations for more than 15 years and has been recognized for her contributions and work toward equity for women in higher education. While much of her work has centered on examining and improving the health, social, and economic well-being of diverse populations; her primary research focuses on access and equity in education, and faculty and student socialization/engagement.

Dr. Banks holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in English; and earned a PhD in the field of higher education leadership and policy studies from Indiana University. Dr. Banks lives in Indianapolis, where she enjoys participating in the annual mini-marathon, restoring furniture, and exploring the nearby caves of Kentucky.
