Maya Brown serves as the New Worlds Reading Initiative Literacy Content Development manager at the Lastinger Center for Learning. In this role Maya supervises the creation of high quality content and services for caregivers and students. She ensures research-based products are created and delivered, supporting evidence-based Science of Reading content.

Maya, driven by a desire to increase the number of students reading proficiently, has served as an educator for over 20 years. During this time Maya forged strong relationships with parents and students with an emphasis on promoting awareness of being actively in charge of their education. In addition, Maya served as a direct support to teachers through the use of mentoring and professional development. Previously, Maya served as a partnership facilitator for the University of Florida Literacy Institute where she worked to ensure everyone from district personnel to classroom teachers were guided in providing literacy instruction supported by the Science of Reading to all students.

Maya has a bachelor’s degree in special education from the University of Florida and a master’s degree in special education from the University of Florida. In her free time she enjoys spending “unplugged” time with her family.
