Small Group Instruction
The UF Lastinger Center for Learning’s Flamingo Literacy Small Group Instruction professional development provides K-12 literacy educators with the knowledge and skills necessary to make instructional decisions based on the individual needs of students.
This program follows a five step research-based approach to reading instruction:
Step 1: Reading for Fluency
Step 2: Targeted Assessment
Step 3: Explicit Word Instruction
Step 4: Reading for Meaning
Step 5: Connecting Reading and Writing
Intended Participants
This program is designed for:
- K-12 literacy educators
Delivery and Duration
Small Group Instruction professional development is comprised of:
- 3 days (18 hours) of face-to-face or virtual training
- 2 (2-hour) virtual ongoing professional development sessions
- 4 (45 minute) Office Hour Sessions
- 4 on-site (6-hour) Implementation Support Visits
Small Group Instruction professional development can be configured to meet your district’s unique needs for educators and students. The Reading App also works in alignment with the Small Group Instruction model to provide evidence-based reading instruction that accelerates the reading process for developing readers.
